When your group wants privacy and time to spend together, you are very welcome to Youth Holiday Centre Vasatokka.

Youth Holiday Centre Vasatokka is a nature resort for people from all ages. The Vasatokka that we know today was originally built in 1907 for children’s foster home. Peaceful location, fishy waters, good water routes and maybe the landscape were reasons for the place to choose. There are still many people in the area who have worked or lived in the foster home and they say it was wonderful time.

The foster home was a self sustaining unit until 1963 when the road was built by the legendary president Kekkonen. He skied one day close to Vasatokka and heard about people living far from the roads. It took a few
weeks before the road construction started.

The new main building was made in 1966 for the need of more space and fire secure place for children but already in 1978 there was no need for foster homes in Finland anymore. The buildings of Vasatokka were used mainly for education and rental flats until in 1994 started the time for youth holiday centre and it still goes on.

By the way, do you know what Vasatokka means? Some Finns might say that yes, it means a group of reindeer calves and it is in fact impossible. The truth is that it is possible. Vasatokka is an ancient Sámi named constellation in the sky, also known in English as Seven Sisters, in Japanese as Subaru and in Finnish as Seulaset.
